Bates College students enrolled in the course "Afroambiente" ("Black Environment"), taught by Associate Professor of Spanish Baltasar Fra-Molinero, will give a multimedia presentation on the effects of Hurricane Katrina on both New Orleans and the United States at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 29, in Room 204 of Carnegie Science Hall, Campus Avenue. The public is invited to attend free of charge.

Students join artist to create Hathorn mural

Visiting muralist Marta Ayala has collaborated with students in Assistant Professor of Spanish Felicia Fahey's Short Term unit, "Muralismo: movimientos en práctica," to produce a mural on the second floor of historic Hathorn Hall. The students' wall painting will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Monday, May 24, in Room 209, and refreshments will be served. All are welcome to attend at no charge.

Dolores Aponte Ramos, professor of Spanish at the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, will present a lecture titled "Performing Transgression: Race and Gender in Experimental Art in Puerto Rico" at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20 in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives, Campus Avenue, Bates College. The public is invited to attend the event free of charge.
