The inauguration stage was designed by Michael Reidy, senior lecturer in theater and managing director of theater and dance.

He explains that presenting the stage as a triangle of sorts — “kicking the stage on an angle,” he says — was done to give spectators an unobstructed view of the platform party, podium and musical performers.

Produced by the college’s Digital Media Center, the video uses photographs taken over seven days with an automated Canon Rebel XS. The images were converted to high-definition (1080p) video using Apple Compressor’s image sequencer, then edited inside Final Cut 7. The tilt-shift effect — which focuses the viewer’s attention on the stage through a slight blur of the top and bottom of the video — was added using Apple Motion 6.

The 1-minute, 9-second video begins with the dismantling of the old grandstand and concludes with the field’s dedication on Oct. 9 during the football team’s Parents & Family Weekend home opener vs. Williams.

The video’s still images were taken by a digital SLR camera mounted on a tripod in a second-story storage room in New Commons. Starting back on May 28, the camera took a picture every seven minutes, each of which was fed to an iMac close by.

To produce the video, Scott Tiner and Colin Kelley of the Digital Media Center selected a subset of the 23,000-plus pictures, eliminating idle stretches, such as weekends.
