Safa Abu-Rabia and Hannah Safran, two feminist peace activists working in Israel, offer a pair of lectures Monday, Oct. 11, in Chase Hall, Campus Avenue, Bates College. Titled "Israeli-Palestinian Peacework: Two Women's Story," the afternoon lecture at 4:30 p.m. in Skelton Lounge is part of "Spiritual Journeys: Stories of the Soul 2004-05."

Toni McNaron, professor emeritus of English and women's studies at the University of Minnesota, discusses her book Poisoned Ivy: Lesbian and Gay Academics Confronting Homophobia(Temple University Press, 1996), at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, in the Edmund S. Highlighting the 12th Annual Maine Women's Studies Conference at Bates College on Nov. 15 will be the 1 p.m. keynote address in the Chapel by Marcia Ann Gillespie, editor in chief of Ms. magazine. The day-long interdisciplinary program -- titled "Making Connections (Among and Between)" -- features papers, panels and workshops related to feminist research and political activism.

Nancy P. Hawley, a prominent member of the group that published the pioneering women's health book Our Bodies, Ourselves, will conduct a workshop and deliver a lecture at Bates College Friday, March 15. Hawley will conduct a session on new health and medical breakthroughs for women at 4 p.m. in Skelton Lounge. Her lecture, at 7 p.m. in Chase Hall Lounge, will cover the history of the women's movement and of the Boston Women's Health Book Collective, its publications and its plans.
