Leonards Wraps up Rookie Season with 31st-place finish in Nordic Classic at NCAA Championships

TRUCKEE, Calif. –
Chris Leonards wrapped up an outstanding rookie season for the Bates College men's Nordic ski team with a 31st-place finish in the 20-kilometer classic at the NCAA Skiing Championships hosted by the University of Nevada on Saturday afternoon.

Leonards '07 (Wilton, Maine) covered the course in 59:08.7, less than six minutes behind the overall winner, Henning Dybendal of the University of Utah, who won both Nordic races at the championship.

Leonards started the week with 38th in the men's 10K freestyle on Thursday, finishing in 25:19.2, less than four minutes behind Dybendal.

Bates scored 27 points to finish in 20th place at the championships. Leonards scored 11 points in two races, while Sean McKenna added 16 points in the giant slalom for the Bobcats. The University of New Mexico won the team title with 623 points.
