For Faculty

Teaching Opportunities Abroad

There are opportunities for Bates faculty to teach abroad

Visits to Study Abroad Sites

The Barlow Endowment for Study Abroad has funds to support faculty visits to study abroad programs and universities used by our students.

Several study abroad programs organize summer seminars/workshops at their study abroad sites.

Emergency Assistance While Abroad

If traveling abroad on Bates College business, you and traveling family members are covered by an Emergency Assistance Policy.

Study Abroad by Bates Students

Off-Campus study at Bates is managed through the Center for Global Education, according to policies set by the faculty, administration, and the Off-Campus Study Committee. Approximately 60% of Bates students study off-campus once or more while at Bates. The goal of the Center for Global Education is for these experiences to be integral to, and supportive of, the student’s overall academic program at Bates. Information on all these options and the related College policies and procedures are available in the Center for Global Education (124 Roger Williams Hall) and in the online section for Bates students.

Contact Information

We welcome calls, emails, and visits from faculty with observations about off-campus study programs, questions about College policies and procedures, or other matters regarding this important part of the Bates curriculum.  The Center for Global Education is located in 124 Roger Williams Hall (786-6223).
