Update on Veterans’ Recognition Project

Dear Members of the Bates Community,

As you may be aware, we are moving forward with plans to create a place on the Bates campus to recognize the service and sacrifice of members of the Bates community who are military veterans and to invite reflection on the broader implications of war. I write now with a brief update and an invitation to participate in this project.

Guiding the project is a committee consisting of students, faculty, staff, and one alumnus, including members of the Public Art Committee. In September we selected a landscape architecture firm to partner with us — MBLA of Freeport, Maine — to design and construct the installation.

As part of the design process, the committee seeks broad input from members of the Bates community. To ensure that the committee hears your perspective, we invite you to share any thoughts you may have by sending a message to veteransrecognition@bates.edu.

For further background on this project, please see communications from me from May 2018 and September 2018.

I appreciate your time and willingness to participate in this project.

Warmly,

Clayton
