Diplomas

Graduating Seniors
The Bates diploma includes the student’s legal name and degree. Students earning Latin honors will receive a revised diploma in June once Short Term grades are received and the final GPA is calculated. The name on the diploma is the full legal name as received upon application and admittance to the college.

Corrections to a student’s name require legal documentation, such as a driver’s license or social security card, showing the legal name. If a legal name change has occurred since matriculation at the college an official copy of the court order must be submitted to the Registrar’s office. The name will be updated in the database and will appear on the diploma and official transcript.

Replacement Diplomas for Alumni
The Registrar’s Office can provide a replacement diploma for any Bates alumnus if an original diploma has been lost or damaged or there has been a legal change of name. To request a replacement diploma, please send a signed request letter, including your full legal name (old and new if applicable), your date of graduation, and the address the diploma is to be sent to. Our mailing address is:

Office of the Registrar and Academic Systems
Bates College
44 Mountain Avenue
Lewiston, ME 04240

Please include a check for $30.00 (made out to Bates College) to cover the cost of a replacement diploma and return the original diploma in the case of damage or legal name change. The new diploma will contain the date your degree was conferred though the signatures will be those of the current Bates President and Secretary of the Board of Trustees.

Please allow 3 – 4 weeks for processing.
