Diplomas
In preparation for commencement in May of each year, diplomas are ordered for the senior class in February.
The diploma includes the student’s name, degree, and any Latin honors received. We order diplomas using students’ full legal name as entered in the database upon admittance to the College. Please see the Registrar’s office if there are any errors.
Corrections to a student’s name require legal documentation, such as a driver’s license or social security card showing the legal name. If a legal name change has occurred since matriculation at the college a copy of the court order must be submitted to the Registrar’s office. The new name will be updated in the database and will appear on the diploma and official transcript.
Replacement Diplomas for Alumni
If an original diploma has been lost or damaged, we can provide a replacement diploma for any Bates alumnus. In order to do so please send a signed request letter, including your full legal name, your date of graduation, and the address the diploma is to be sent to. Our mailing address is:
Office of the Registrar and Academic Systems
Bates College
44 Mountain Avenue
Lewiston, ME 04240
Please include a check for $30.00 (made out to Bates College) to cover the cost of a replacement diploma. Our diplomas are printed by a national vendor so it can take several weeks to process the order and receive the diploma. The new diploma will contain the date your degree was conferred though the signatures will be those of current Bates officers.
Translation of the Diploma
We understand that as the diploma is written in Latin a translation may be helpful. Please email registrar@bates.edu and we will be happy to provide you a copy of the translation on Bates letterhead.
