Parking Policy

Changes to the Bates College parking policy affecting students, faculty and staff, take effect on Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2018.

What everyone needs to know about the new parking policy:

  • Zipcars are located the New Merrill Lot adjacent to the Baseball field.
  • Detailed parking information now appears on Bates’ new interactive campus map.
  • Full information can be found on the Parking Policy Web page.
  • If you must park on the street, please park only on Campus, College, Central, Frye, and Wood streets. All other streets should be avoided in consideration of our neighbors and guests of the college. *Effective Fall 2017, the City of Lewiston imposed restrictions (NO OVERNIGHT PARKING) on most streets surrounding the campus. Many of these streets have this prohibition in effect throughout the academic year (September through May); a few streets have the prohibition exercised year-round. Only Frye, Wood, and Nichols streets are exempted.
  • For more information, check the Parking FAQ.
  • Parking on North Bardwell Street across from Adams and Smith halls is now designated for Faculty/Staff parking from 6 a.m. to midnight – and is closed to ALL parking from midnight to 6 a.m., and ticketed violations incur a fine of $100.
  • Unauthorized parking infringement upon designated Handicap spaces will incur a fine of $100.

What students need to know:

  • Student vehicles are registered with association to campus through the parking permit process. No vehicle may park on campus without being permitted. Registration for a student vehicle permit is made available online via Garnet Gateway. Any Student who registers for a vehicle permit will be awarded one.
  • IMPORTANT: The online link may not be set up accessible to some mobile devices and Apple laptops. To ensure success with registering, it is recommended that a PC be used. The PCs made available on campus at labs, library, and Milt’s Lounge in Commons can be used for this. Don’t forget to logout after use.
  • Please be prepared to provide the make, model, color, license plate number, and the everyday phone number you use in Lewiston.
  • Student parking is available in the Merrill Parking Lot, John Bertram Lot, Chu Lot, 1 row in Admissions Lot, Wood St Lot, Personnel/HR Lot (back row is Faculty/Staff), Vale St Lot, and Village Lot (not including the Olin Lot). There are approximately 450 spaces which are designated specifically for Student parking.
  • In response to the City imposed overnight parking prohibition on most public streets surrounding campus, students may move their permitted vehicles off the street to park in available Faculty/Staff spaces on campus during the overnight (after 5:00 p.m.). All student vehicles in other than Student designated spaces must be removed at 7:00 on any academic class day or campus operating business day; tickets will be issued after 7:00 a.m. Permitted student vehicles are authorized to share use of the on-campus parking spaces during evenings, overnights, and weekends – excluding North Bardwell St after Midnight, and Olin Lot (which is preferred for overnight Visitor parking with guest permit).
  • For more information, check the Parking FAQ.
