Bobcat Express Community Engaged Learning Shuttles (CELS)

Students requiring off-campus transportation for academic related service learning, internships, or other community service can use one of three Bobcat express SLS Shuttles.

Generally speaking, all CEL Shuttles run from 8a-6p Monday-Friday during the academic year, when classes are in session.

All CEL Shuttles depart from the Chu Parking Lot located behind the dorm. During inclement weather, students are advised to wait in the lobby of Kalperis Hall. This lobby has direct visibility to the pick up area behind Chu Hall.

CEL Shuttles typically experience high demand usage during the academic year and will be unable to “turn around” should you miss your shuttle. Shuttles will not be contacted to return for late pickups. Missed shuttles will result in extended wait times for the next available shuttle to arrive.

The primary mission of weekday CEL Shuttles is to provide students with transportation specifically for college sponsored service learning activities as part of their academic experience at Bates.

CEL Shuttles DO NOT operate when Lewiston and/or Auburn schools have been cancelled or are not in session.

CEL Shuttles DO NOT provide transportation services for convenience or leisure shopping.

CELS-LEWISTON SCHOOLS

The CELS-Lewiston Schools operates on the follwing route going to the Lewiston area schools. Each route requires a half hour to travel, and run once each hour, on the hour and on the half hour.

The first route departs on the half hour, beginning at 8:30 am and stops at Connors, Lewiston High School,  and Montello. (Students going to downtown locations such as Tree Street, Root Cellar, B-Street Clinic, St.Mary’s Nutrition Center, Lewiston Public Library and Trinity Jubilee can get a ride with the van on this loop leaving at half past the hour if there is seating availability).

The second route, departs on the hour, beginning at 9:00 am and stops at Farwell, McMahon, and Geiger. It is important to coordinate assigned student teaching roles to work with the established loop schedules in order to best assure arriving at these locations on time

During the afternoon (beginning at 3:30p), the CELS-Lewiston Schools transitions to transporting students involved with programs at Lewiston locations such as: Tree Street Youth, Root Cellar, B-Street Clinic, AK Health and Social Services, Hillview Community Center, Lewiston Public Library and Center for Women’s Wisdom.

* Shuttles are not be expected to respond immediately to an unscheduled “off-cycle” request. Students setting up their teaching internships should acquaint themselves with the transport schedule, and make every attempt to synchronize with it.

CEL Shuttles do not function as a personal “Uber” type of service catering to the individual and will routinely incorporate several pick ups and drop offs along their routes.

CELS-LEWISTON
