What is the Fifth Year Interim Report?  Following the 2000 reaccreditation Self Study and visit, NEASC renewed Bates College's accreditation until 2010.  NEASC requires that institutions  submit an Interim Report between full accreditation reviews.  This is a normal part of the on-going accreditation cycle.  Institutions are typically asked to use the Interim Report to address any issues that may have been raised by the Visting Team, and to focus attention on issues and goals that may be addressed in the next Self Study.  In the Interim Report, institutions are asked discuss significant changes that have occurred since the last accreditation review, and to update various data elements.

The Hypertext Interim Report:  We have embedded links throughout the online document to connect the reader directly to existing sections of the Bates Online web that may clarify, expand upon, or provide further documentation of the text.  The links are intended supplement the text, and are provided as a service for the convenience of the reader.  If you have an active web connection, you can click on any text surrounded by an outline box to open a web link to a supporting document.  (The links connect the reader to pages that existed on the Bates web as of October, 2005.  As the web changes, it is inevitable that some of the links will break.  Most links will remain valid, but we are unable to update or repair the broken ones.)

Reading the on-line version:  The report  is posted electronically in Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.   Acrobat Reader software can be downloaded for major computer operating systems without charge.  You should be able to view or print the document using Acrobat Reader. When you view the document, you may wish to open the Acrobat bookmark window--links are set up help the reader navigate to each section of the Interim Report. When you view the document on your screen and follow the embedded links in the document, you may either have to use your web browser back arrow, or switch to the Acrobat Reader application to return to the Interim Report document.  (This will depend on how you have configured your software.)  If you have difficulty reading the document in your web browser, you may want to update your browser, or save the report to disk and open it directly into Adobe Acrobat. The embedded link indicators (the boxes around the text) will not print if you decide to print the document.)
