Program Notes

Two-time All-NESCAC outfielder
Katie Franklin '07

The Bobcats begin practice inside the Gray Athletic Building and on Bates' AstroTurf field following a February training trip to Florida, where the Bobcats train and play four to six games against teams from other NCAA regions.

Bates' intense New England schedule runs from mid-March to mid-May, with as many as 32 games scheduled. Bates competes against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponents and other top New England rivals like St. Joseph’s College and the University of Southern Maine.

Home contests are played at the modern softball facility at Lafayette Street Field, featuring dugouts, bullpens, an electronic scoreboard, and outdoor batting tunnel.

The 2006 Bobcats ended the season with the second-highest win total in the history of the 31 year old program. Three players --  Katie Franklin '07, Stacia Saniuk '09, and Kyla Decato '06-- earned post season awards.  Decato and Saniuk were named to the All-NESCAC Second Team, with Saniuk also named as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year.  Franklin was named First Team All-NESCAC as well as Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III First Team All-New England and a New England Division III Second Team All-Star.

Franklin also broke the program record for doubles in a season with 14, and came within one run of matching the record for runs in a season.  Saniuk and Franklin both broke the record for total bases with 73 and 66, respectively.  As a team the Bobcats managed to get 256 hits last season breaking the program record of 237.  They also beat past teams on the number of doubles and home runs hit in a season, as well as total bases.  Pitcher Kristin Masino '07 won 14 games for her team, earning her the school record, as well as the record for most innings pitched with 122.1 and most strikeouts in a season with 66.
