Gave a seminar titled: "Toxicology Research at Bates College: Developmental Toxicity of Tributyltin and Dioxin" to first-year students and parents during Student Orientation at Bates College on Sept. 1, 2002. Panel member at a Teaching Development Committee event: "An Invitation to Participate in a Conversation among Junior Faculty: Meeting, Surviving (and Enjoying) the Challenges of the Tenure Process at Bates College!!" April 13, 2003. Gave a seminar titled: "Toxicology Research at Bates College" to first-year students and parents during Student Orientation at Bates College on Sept. 4, 2004. Faculty member participant in Peer Assisted Learning Project: Worked with two student leaders to facilitate peer assisted learning in "Biological Principles" (Bio 201), Fall Semester 2004. Service to the Scientific Community: Gave seminar on career options to graduate students in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program at the University of New Mexico-Albuquerque. The seminar was titled "Teaching and Research at Bates College, a Small Liberal Arts Institution" and was given on March 3, 2003. External Examiner for the honors theses of two biology students at Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio, May 3, 2003. Dr. Wade Powell (Kenyon College) advised the two students Tatyana Klimova, thesis titled "Cloning, expression and biochemical characterization of aryl hydrocarbon receptors 1alpha and 1beta in Xenopus laevis" and Ashley Rowatt, thesis titled "Expression and Biochemical Characterization of the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Nuclear Translocator 2 (ARNT2) in Xenopus laevis". Taught: "Cardiovascular Toxicology" in the toxicology graduate student course "Introduction to Toxicology", University of Southern Maine, October 22, 2003, October 20, 2004, and October 19, 2005. Service to the Lewiston/Auburn community: Career Fair Participant, Elm Street Junior High School, Mechanic Falls, May 13, 1999. Advised local Bass Club on methods to scientifically monitor the incidence of open sores found on fish caught from area lakes and rivers, 1999. Organized and taught in a Science Learning Workshop for local Boy Scout Troops, May 20, 2000. Community representative for an Integ Review (ethical review board) on an Alcon Ltd. ophthalmology study taking place in Lewiston, ME, 2000. |
