Service to the Scientific Community:

Gave seminar on career options to graduate students in the Biomedical Sciences Graduate Program at the University of New Mexico-Albuquerque. The seminar was titled "Teaching and Research at Bates College, a Small Liberal Arts Institution" and was given on March 3, 2003.

External Examiner for the honors theses of two biology students at Kenyon College, Gambier, Ohio, May 3, 2003. Dr. Wade Powell (Kenyon College) advised the two students Tatyana Klimova, thesis titled "Cloning, expression and biochemical characterization of aryl hydrocarbon receptors 1alpha and 1beta in Xenopus laevis" and Ashley Rowatt, thesis titled "Expression and Biochemical Characterization of the Aryl Hydrocarbon Receptor Nuclear Translocator 2 (ARNT2) in Xenopus laevis".

Taught: "Cardiovascular Toxicology" in the toxicology graduate student course "Introduction to Toxicology", University of Southern Maine, October 22, 2003, October 20, 2004, and October 19, 2005.

Advised local Bass Club on methods to scientifically monitor the incidence of open sores found on fish caught from area lakes and rivers, 1999.
