Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
The Assistant Director assists the Head Directors in directing the AESOP program.
Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Present during student leader interviews and aids in leader selection process
- Available to Head Directors when needed

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities
This student must have completed their freshman year at Bates and must be WFA, first aid, and CPR certified. The AESOP Assistant Director must have extensive camping experience and must have led an AESOP trip before. The AESOP Assistant Director must be able to lift, carry, and setup camping equipment as well as camp in Maine and NH. For canoe trips, they must be able to use a canoe trailer.
REPORTS TO: Holly Gurney COORDINATES/WORKS CLOSELY WITH: Head AESOP Directors
ENVIRONMENT: Bates Outing Club E‑Room, AESOP, and 111 Bardwell, 45 Campus Avenue TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Camping in Maine and NH. For canoe trips, use a canoe trailer. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The AESOP Assistant Director must be able to lift, carry, and setup camping equipment. MACHINES & EQUIPMENT USED: Camping equipment including stoves, fuel, propane. Driving vans and canoe trailers.
