DOF: Academic Advising Mentor (S9969B)

Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Academic Advising Mentors will hold drop-in hours to advise fellow students about the general education curriculum, particularly majors, minors, and GECs. These mentors will work several weeks prior to and during the advising and registration period each semester.


These students will work during specified parts of the academic year (such as the three or four weeks surrounding advising and registration each semester, and/or during add/drop periods at the beginning of each semester).

Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Hold drop-in hours for student seeking advice about registering for courses and planning their academic career
  • Assist students in understanding general education requirements, GEC requirements, and major and minor requirements
  • Assist students with hands-on registration issues (i.e. navigating Garnet Gateway or locating appropriate faulty or staff contact person)

REQUIRED: EXPERIENCE: These students must be familiar with and feel comfortable distributing information about the general education requirements at Bates. They also must be able to work independently.DESIRED: EDUCATION: Senior and junior students
