Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
Peer Writing Assistants work directly with fellow students to offer collaborative support, feedback, and suggestions concerning writing, research, and the writing process. Some Writing Assistants work in Ladd Library’s Peer Writing Center, and others work directly with the students and instructor of specified writing-focused courses. Writing Assistants must successfully complete EDUC s19 Theory and Practice of Writing and Tutoring or other designated initial training before they work with students. Writing assistants also attend ongoing staff development meetings during the term in addition to meeting one-to-one with students.
Peer Writing Assistants must have strong writing, communication, and interpersonal skills. Selection is based on a competitive application process involving faculty recommendations or nominations, writing samples, and personal interviews. Candidates may be nominated by faculty or peers or be self-nominated. Successful completion of training is also required
