Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Environmental Health & Safety Intern will research and report on current waste materials produced on campus as well as current disposal and recycling practices. The Intern will research additional options for reducing, disposing or recycling of solid, hazardous and universal wastes and provide an economic analysis to show potential savings to the college. The student will work with the Environmental Health and Safety personnel as well as the Environmental Coordinator to address the issues concerned in this project.

Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:

  • Review existing programs by reading documents and interviewing program managers
  • Research new options online by phone, possibly by visiting other sites
  • Formulate analysis of the effectiveness of current programs and assess and recommend new initiatives on the basis of practicality, cost, manpower requirements and benefits to the college
