ILS: Public Services Shelving Assistant (S9840B)
Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
The Student Assistant Shelver is responsible for shelving all materials in the library, excluding Government Documents. This position requires punctuality, attention to detail and responsibility. The Student Assistant Shelver must be able to work independently.
EDUCATION: High school completion
EXPERIENCE: Library experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The Public Services Assistant must have visual acuity sufficient to scan call numbers and information on books, periodicals, and microforms repeatedly and for long periods of time. He or she must also have the muscular strength adequate to lift heavy books and periodicals.
Specific responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Shelf reading materials
- Shelf books, periodicals, and audio video materials
- Other duties as assigned
Please Note: This position provides no opportunity for studying on the job. All of the on-the-job time is spent performing the duties listed above.
