Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

Ronj Managers work collaboratively to oversee all of the daily Ronj operations. Managers oversee Assistant Managers, Servers, and Crew Members (generally a staff of around 20 students). Managers are responsible for Accounting, Inventory Management, Event Programming/Publicity, Sanitation Operations, and Staff Development. Managers collectively supervise the Ronj staff and trainings, set up Ronj hours and shift schedules, and oversee all maintenance and management of the Ronj. Ronj Managers are supervised by the Office of Campus Life. Please note this position is only open to individuals who have experience as Ronj Assistant Managers, Servers, or Crew Members.

This position requires working with a diverse group of Ronj staff, as well as a variety of campus partners including Dining, Campus Life, and club/org leaders.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


• Jointly Managers are responsible for all Ronj publicity, the Ronj space, Ronj staff training, shift scheduling, handling of cash and accounting for funds, balancing the budget, events/ programming for the Ronj, inventories, orders, upkeep, opening and closing the Ronj, assisting with Ronj social media, and maintaining communication between Ronj staff members and Campus Life. • Manager specializing in accounting should be prepared to maintain spreadsheets online, use Square (payment system), check inventory, identify which days and shifts are generating the most income or space usage, and maintain closing forms. • Manager specializing in stocking should be prepared to work closely with Accounting staff at Bates College. Responsibilities may include getting cash advances or handling reimbursements, using the College cards, stocking and putting away items, checking the Ronj weekly to identify stocking needs, handling online and phone orders for cups, sleeves and hard goods, keeping track of the vendors the Ronj uses. • Manager specializing in event programming/ publicity should be prepared to handle logistics and set up for events on-site at the Ronj, communicating with performers, bringing contracts to Campus Life, and assisting with social media and publicity. • Managers also specialize in other areas as needed, such as staff development and training, shift coverage, food safety standards and compliance, recipe standardization, equipment maintenance and upkeep, public relations, and other tasks as required for efficient operation of the Ronj. • Oversees the hiring process and supervision of the Ronj Assistant Managers and the Servers. • Communicates regularly and attends all check-ins/meetings with Ronj staff and Campus Life supervisor. • Ensures that all sanitation, safety and security regulations at the Ronj are adhered to by the entire Ronj staff.

Requirements


• Familiarity with the Ronj (frequents the space, has worked on staff - ideally for at least 2 years). • Timely in presence and Campus Life communications (ability to respond to emails in 24hrs unless special circumstance arises). • Effective in communicating with a variety of stakeholders, including fellow managers, student supervisees, and campus partners. • Willingness to develop and practice conflict resolution skills. • Should be honest, flexible, responsible and dedicated. • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances. • Willingness to learn and make changes based on recommendations of students/staff/customer/Campus Life ideas and opinions. • Passion in cultivating an inclusive, safe, and non-drinking space. • Ability to work with a diverse set of colleagues and staff members. • Competence in peer supervisory and leadership skills, such as developing the strengths of peer supervisees, mediating peer-to-peer conflicts, and coordinating/delegating responsibilities among a staff of 20+ peers.

Reporting


Ronj Managers are supervised by Campus Life professional staff. Managers collectively supervise the Ronj staff and training, set up Ronj hours and shift schedules, and oversee all maintenance and management of the Ronj.

Working Conditions


All shifts will be completed either in the Ronj coffeehouse at Ross House, or at the Ronj cart elsewhere on campus. Training sessions may take place in other campus spaces. Depending on specific management responsibilities, there may also be trips off-campus to obtain supplies for the Ronj.
