Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Ronj Servers prepare and serve beverages, pre-packaged snacks, and locally sourced baked goods at the Ronj. They work closely with other Ronj staff and customers to maintain the Ronj coffeehouse and may assist with Ronj events. They assist with the daily maintenance and operations of the Ronj. They also act as a liaison for the Ronj to the campus community, helping make its presence known and generally promoting it to their peers.

This position requires working with a diverse group of Ronj staff to serve the Bates community.

This position is under the leadership of the Ronj Managers and Assistant Managers, and servers are expected to be an active community member, contributing to the overall goals and mission of the Ronj.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities

Responsibilities


Ronj Servers take weekly shifts - they must be present and maintain a level of professionalism during these shifts. Please note that shifts are typically 2 hours long; those hired can expect to work about 2 shifts per week. Ronj Servers are expected to take payments, prepare drink or food orders, and develop customer service skills. Ronj Servers are responsible for maintaining health and safety standards, including kitchen equipment and dish sanitation while on shift. Ronj Servers must be present at mandatory Ronj meetings and training. These typically occur bimonthly during the academic year. Ronj Servers assist with staffing Ronj events as necessary.

Requirements


Ronj Servers must have a willingness to learn new skills and a desire to be part of the Ronj community experience. Ability to communicate effectively in a customer service setting. Willing to embrace challenge and critically problem solve to meet customer needs. Past experience in customer service positions, particularly those in food service, will be looked upon favorably, though is not required for this position.

Reporting


Ronj Servers report to Ronj Assistant Managers and Managers and may also work in coordination with Campus Life professional staff.

Working Conditions


All shifts will be completed either in the Ronj coffeehouse at Ross House, or at the Ronj cart elsewhere on campus. Training sessions may take place in other campus spaces.
