CHEM: TA Specialist (S9930C)

Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities


A head TA Specialist runs review sessions for an entire class of introductory chemistry students (either 107/108 or 217/218), without any supervision. Only students who have (1) Done very well in the course that they are leading review sessions for and (2) served as a teaching assistant in this course before, are eligible for this position.



The TA Specialist must have had successful completion of the course being taught. The TA Specialist must have been a lower level teaching assistant for at least one year. Successful completion of advanced chemistry courses and a chemistry or biochemistry major is optimal as well as being a lower level teaching assistant for 2 years



Students who run a review session for an entire course with little or no supervision find the duties are complex. They must field questions from students about any question that the students have about lab or class material, including, but not limited to, questions from lecture, problem sets, exams, or the text.
