THE: Theater Carpenter (S9720B)

Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Carpenter performs a variety of tasks for the Theater Department. He or she installs scenery and masking, and works with a range of wood working tools. The Carpenter is also responsible for keeping the shop clean. May also work with electricians on rigging lighting equipment,

Please Note: Some night and weekend commitment is required.

The carpenter must be a Bates student. Having successfully passed THEA 132 or THEA 232 is a plus. Will be asked to read and interpret design drawings. Prior theater experience is desired.
The carpenter works in the Schaeffer Theatre, Gannett Theater, Black Box, and Scenic Shop and frequently uses the saws, drills, staples, paint equipment, and stage counterweight system. He or she must be able to lift 50 lbs. and climb a ladder in excess of twelve feet.
