Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities
The Carpenter performs a variety of tasks for the Theater Department. He or she installs scenery and masking, works with electricians on rigging lighting equipment, and works with a range of wood working tools. The Carpenter is also responsible for keeping the shop clean.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities
Requirements
The carpenter must be a Bates student and it is required that he or she must have taken Theater 132 and 232 and must be able to read and interpret design drawings. It is also desired that the carpenter has had other theater experience.
Reporting
Reports to Technical Director, Assistant Technical Director, and Master Carpenter and works closely with theater faculty and guest artists.
Responsibilities
The carpenter works in the Schaeffer Theater, Gannett Theater, Black Box, and Scenic Shop and frequently uses the saws, drills, staples, paint equipment, and stage counterweight system. He or she must be able to lift 50 lbs. and climb a ladder in excess of twelve feet.
