Summary, Scope, and Responsibilities

The Master Electrician oversees installation of lighting equipment at the direction of the Lighting Designer/Technical Director for all department shows. He or she also solves production challenges as they arise.

Please Note: Some night and weekend commitment is required and the Master Electrician must attend all Theater Department strikes.

Be a second set of eyes and ears for Technical Director and help keep things safe.

Requirements


The master electrician nust be a Bates student and must have successfully completed Theatre 132 and/or 232. Additional theater experience outside Bates and a familiarity with basic electrical wiring methods.

Reporting


Reports to Technical Director and Assistant Technical Director. Supervises electricians and works closely with theater faculty and guest artists.

Responsibilities


The master electrician works in the Schaeffer Theater, Gannett Theater, Black Box, and Scenic Shop. He or she must be able to lift 50 lbs. and climb a ladder in excess of twelve feet. The electrician will frequently use wrenches, ladders, cables, theatrical lighting and rigging equipment.
