The Props Assistant maintains the department prop and furniture collection. He or she also assists the Prop Master in preparing props for department shows and facilitates prop loans to acting classes.

Qualifications, Requirements, and Responsibilities


The Props Assitant must be a Bates Student. It is desired that this student has a driver's license and has access to transportation. Successful completion if Theater 132 and/or 231 and good upholestry skills would also be very helpful.


Reports to Prop Master, Technical Director, Scenic Designer, and Assistant Technical Director and works closely with theater faculty and guest artists.


The props assistant works in the Schaeffer Theater, Gannett Theater, Black Box, and Scenic Shop. He or she will go on frequent shopping trips - (access to a car is a big plus!) The Props Assistant must be able to lift 50 lbs. and climb a ladder in excess of twelve feet and will frequently use saws, drills, staples, paint equipment, and sewing machines.
