BARLOW ENDOWMENT FOR STUDY ABROAD BATES STUDENT RESEARCH FUND GRANTS support student research in all disciplines associated with a senior thesis, independent study, or an academic course. Grants of up to $300 fund supplies, travel, subject reimbursement and more. COMMUNITY WORK-STUDY FELLOWSHIPS. Federal work-study funds can be used for the academic-year community-based work with local non-profit agencies. Students can apply for jobs already listed for local organizations. Students MUST qualify for federal work-study funds. Compensation is at a rate of $8/hour. Host agencies must agree to reimburse Bates College of 25% of the student's total earnings. CRAFTS SERVICE-LEARNING AWARDS provide funds for students who design an academically-related service-learning project. Funding up to $500 for qualified students and up to $1000 for a group of students is available. Arthur Crafts funds cover expenses that might arise in a project, such as supplies, fees or research expenses. Awards are competitive, are granted without regard to financial need and are available to students in all disciplines and classes. HUGHES STUDENT TRAVEL GRANTS support travel to scholarly conferences in the science, mathematics, and science education. Regional, national, and international travel is supported. Preference goes to students presenting research at the conference. Faculty advisors are expected to attend the meeting with the student. Deadlines: October 1, 2007; February 1 and March 17, 2008. INBRE GRADUATE SCHOOL TRAVEL SUPPORT GRANTS support juniors or seniors to visit eligible graduate programs in Maine and in other IDeA states. In-state award will not exceed $275 and out-of-state award will not exceed $500. Deadline: July 30 for spring and summer travel. PAPAIOANOU SERVICE-LEARNING GRANTS are awarded on a competitive basis to students who seek up to $100 to carry out an academically-related service-learning project in the community during the academic year. Students may submit a proposal at any point during the semester to the Harward Center for Community Partnerships. Students who are thinking of applying for these funds are strongly encouraged to talk with Holly Lasagna (786-8319) at the Center. Deadline: ongoing. VOLUNTEER SERVICE GRANTS provide funding for volunteer service projects. Individuals can apply for up to $250 and groups up to $500.
