BARLOW ENDOWMENT FOR STUDY ABROAD provides fellowships for off-campus study semesters, smaller off-campus study enhancement grants, support for theses associated with off-campus study, and faculty travel grants.  For more information: www.bates.edu/acad/offcampusstudy/grant.html.

BATES STUDENT RESEARCH FUND GRANTS support student research in all disciplines associated with a senior thesis, independent study, or an academic course.  Grants of up to $300 fund supplies, travel, subject reimbursement and more.  Deadlines: Oct. 1 and Dec. 1, 2009; Feb. 1 and April 29, 2010.

COMMUNITY WORK-STUDY FELLOWSHIPS. Federal work-study funds can be used for the academic-year community-based work with local non-profit agencies. Students MUST qualify for federal work-study funds. Host agencies must agree to reimburse Bates College FOR 25% of the student's total earnings. Contact the Harward Center for Community Partnerships. Deadline:  rolling, but most positions are filled by mid-semester.

COMMUNITY-BASED RESEARCH FELLOWS PROGRAM supports community-based research by enhancing students' access to academic, community, and peer expertise. Students participate either as CBR Fellows or CBR Peers. CBR Fellows are first-time participants in the program; they design and undertake a CBR project and participate in regular meetings of the CBR group. CBR Peers are past Fellows who have elected to remain with the program. Contact the Harward Center for Community Partnership. Deadline: Sept. 29, 2009.

CRAFTS SERVICE-LEARNING AWARDS provide funds for students who design an academically-related service-learning project. Awards are granted without regard to financial need and are available to students in all disciplines and classes.  Contact the Harward Center for Community Partnerships.  Deadlines:  Oct. 1, 2009; Feb. 1 and April 29, 2010.

PAPAIOANOU SERVICE-LEARNING GRANTS are awarded on a competitive basis to students who seek up to $100 to carry out an academically-related service-learning project in the community during the academic year. Students are strongly encouraged to talk with Holly Lasagna at the Harward Center for Community Partnerships about applying.  Deadline:  rolling.

TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE GRANTS provide funds to help students with travel expenses related to their service project. Contact the Harward Center for Community Partnerships. Deadline: rolling (reviewed every two weeks).

VOLUNTEER SERVICE GRANTS provide funding for volunteer service projects.  Individual can apply for up to $150 and groups up to $300. For more information, contact the Harward Center for Community Partnerships. Deadline:  rolling.
