Around Town & Campus
Get around without a car! We are minimizing the need for students to bring cars to campus by building community programs.
Zipcars
Bates hosts two Toyota Prius Zipcars on campus. Annual membership is only $35. Students can reserve a car right from their computer and take it out for $8/hr or $66/day – the fee includes gas, maintenance, insurance and a free reserved parking spot at Bates!
Green Bike Program
The green bike program offers students access to more than 20 green bikes on campus, all marked “Sustainable Bates.” It is a free program, which students can join by participating in an orientation workshop in September. Members have key access to every bike and use them as a shared resource on and off campus.
Bates Community Shuttle
The Student Activities Office runs a free shuttle for students between campus & popular community locations every Friday through Sunday and free weekly bus trips to Freeport, the Maine Mall, the Common Ground Fair and the Old Port on weekends.
Local Bus
The purple CityLink bus runs six days a week throughout Lewiston and Auburn. A stop on campus connects faculty, staff and students with locations in Lewiston and Auburn including the Auburn Mall, CMCC, grocery stores, Thorncrag bird sanctuary and others.
Did You know?
Bates uses Electric Vehicles. Since 2008, the college has purchased six electric utility vehicles in place of gas-powered trucks and golf carts used by Physical Plant, Information and Library Services and Dining Services.
