Fall 2009 Village Club Series

All shows in the Benjamin Mays Center.  All shows at 9 pm.

September 10 - Javier -  With the release of his self-titled debut in 2003, newcomer Javier proved himself a welcome addition to the canon of intriguing R&B singers. Indeed, not since Babyface has there been an artist who could write and sing beautifully crafted songs as well as throw down with an acoustic guitar and do it all with such pureness.

Remember - first show = free stuff!

September 17The Hamiltons - Featuring three great performers - Nini Camps, Marilyn D'Amato & Trina Hamlin - the Hamiltons will offer a great show.

September 24 - Nick MotilPostponed - check back for a new date.  His voice was reminiscent of a young Paul Simon, his guitar brought Dave Matthews to mind, and his rhythm could have been found in any Jason Mraz tune. Yet, something makes him unique from all of the above - his lyrics hit the listener on a personal level. Whether it's anticipating love or regretting the one you lost, anyone can relate.

October 1 - Dana Alexandra - One listen to Dana Alexandra will offer a voice and cleverly catchy songs that will draw you into her warm little world that you just won't want to leave anytime soon.

October 8 - Edie Carey - “Accidental Poet,” one of Edie Carey's earliest songs, describes a particularly eloquent friend, but could just as easily refer to Carey herself and the circuitous and serendipitous route that led her to become one of the country's most notable young songwriters.

October 15 - Alvin Lau - Alvin Lau is a Chicago native, writer of poetry and prose, and proud son of Chinese immigrants. An avid competitor in poetry slams, he is the highest ranking Asian-American slam poet of all time and has won more high stakes poetry slams than any other poet in the world.

October 29 - Adam Day - Adam Day's voice fills the air with an aching melody. His lyrics rival those of the great Adam Duritz of the Counting Crows backed by a unique guitar groove suitable for a stroll on a sunny day or falling asleep to the sound of rain.

November 5 - Ry Cuming - Ry has won two of Australia's Dolphin Awards in 2004 for Best Pop Song and Best New Artist and has recently been featured on NBC's EXTRA and MTV's LAGUNA BEACH: The Real OC. Ry is also featured alongside Maroon 5 and Jimmy Buffett in the New Line feature, HOOT.

November 19 - Craig Cardiff - singer songwriter, troubadour, builds landscapes of sound using live digital loops - brings the room to a hush. edged, folk, beautiful, melancholy and left leaning, one song breaks your heart and the next one puts it back together.

December 3 - Taylor Carson - revered songsmith and noted relationship philosopher, has finally gone back to his roots with this new record, Standing Alone. True to the title, it features only his voice and instrument, painting memories in brilliant hues with his conversational vocals and melodic musicianship. Standing Alone captures the intimacy of Taylor Carson's live solo acoustic show that has earned him supporting shows with Ellis Paul, Tyrone Wells and Stephen Kellogg.

All shows are free to the entire Bates Community.
Free refreshments will be provided at all Village Club Series events
