Class Agents

The role of Bates Class Agents cannot be over-stated. Class Agents drive the number and value of gifts made to the college, and this provides a number of critically important benefits, first of which is financial aid for those who would otherwise be unable to attend Bates.

The Bates Fund also plays a crucial role in other key areas, including:

  • Impacting Bates’ ability to compete for major grants
  • Supporting student and faculty programs and research through grants
  • Attracting and retaining the best possible faculty
  • Helping Bates retain its status as one of the world’s leading institutions of higher learning; this, in turns, maintains the value of our Bates degrees

An important element of the Class Agent role is creating and nurturing a sense of community amongst alumni, helping them to stay abreast of what’s going on at the college while strengthening their relationship with Bates.

Without the work done by its Class Agents, Bates would not be the college that it is. While it’s true that many peer schools have significantly more agents, Bates is moving forward. With the support and drive of our current agents, along with the Decade Co-Captains and Executive Committee Co-Chairs, the Class Agent program is poised to create a strong foundation for Bates’ continued success and growth for years to come.
