What’s New at Bates

Senior Romina Istratii of Athens, Greece, is one of 40 students nationwide to receive a 2012 Watson Fellowship, a prestigious grant that supports a year of independent research abroad. She expressed heartfelt thanks to Bates donors at the Mount David Society Luncheon on March 30, 2012.

Athletics: The Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field teams had excellent showings at the NCAA Championships. Competing in the shot put, junior David Pless of Atlanta, Ga., set the NCAA record and won his second straight national championship. Also, the spring sports season began with two major wins over state rival Bowdoin. The men’s lacrosse team outscored the Polar Bears 11-5 on April 4th, and the baseball team staged a late rally to earn its first win in Brunswick since 2005.

Bates recently announced the appointment of the college’s eighth president, A. Clayton Spencer. To learn more about the President-elect click here.
