Spring 2008

Cecilia Grissa '08 further demonstrated why she is one of the top singles players in New England.
In the spring 2008 season, the Bates women’s tennis team produced exciting wins over teams such as Colby, Smith and Mount Holyoke en route to finishing the year with a 4-13 mark.
On a February trip to Florida, the Bobcats also gave ranked Division II opponent Tampa a tough match, resulting in a 7-2 defeat for Bates, and nearly knocked off Division I opponent Lehigh University in April, in a 4-3 loss.

Fall 2007 Recap
The Bates women’s tennis team opened up its fall season with a resounding victory over the University of Southern Maine, 9-0, dropping only three games throughout the entire match. At the ITA Championships, Grissa and Piacquad defeated a strong Amherst team which was later a top seed at the New England Women’s Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT).
Grissa’s success continued at the NEWITT tournament, as she reached the quarterfinals of the No. 1 Singles flight. Captain Mallika Raghavan ’08 andLiz Fleming ’08 had a strong showing in the No. 2 doubles flight, reaching the Round of 16 before falling in a hotly contested match.
In December Raghavan earned distinction as a semifinalist for the Wooden Citizenship Cup, a national award recognizing the most outstanding role models among athletes.
