Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan

2007-2008:
Indoor Track Season: Won All-American honors, finishing eighth in the 20-pound weight throw at NCAA Championships, becoming the 13th Bates woman to achieve All-America status in indoor track and field and the second to win the award in the weight throw….. At ECACs, finished fifth in the shot put, at 41’01.50″ (four points)…. Scored two points at Open New Englands with a seventh-place finish in the weight throw to put Bates in a tie with Middlebury for 21st place out of 32 scoring teams at the meet; finished 12th in the shot put, at 41’06.50″…. At State of Maine Championships, Duncan had victories in both the weight throw (55’08.50″) and the shot put, where she surpassed the 40-foot mark for the first time at 40’05.00″.
Outdoor Track Season: Named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District women’s track & field/cross country team…. Named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association’s 2008 Academic All-America team, by virtue of qualifying for the NCAA Championships while maintaining the requisite grade point average of 3.25…. Competed in both the shot put (12th out of 19) and hammer throw (15th) at the NCAA Outdoor Division III Track and Field Championships…. At Open New Englands, finished second in the shot put with a personal-record mark of 46 feet and 7.25 inches, automatically qualifying for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships; Duncan followed her sixth-place performance in the hammer throw preliminaries by placing second only to Marsha Locke of Sacred Heart (48-11.75) in the finals to score eight team points for Bates.
Placed second in the shot put, with a top effort of 41-04.50, as well fourth in the hammer at 153-03 at New England Division III Championships…. Won the NESCAC title in the shot put and finished third at NESCACs in the hammer and fourth in the discus throw…. Named All-New England in the shot and the hammer.
