Latest NewsCoffin repeats as All-American in women's basketball 3/21/2008
ATLANTA -- Bates College senior Meg Coffin has been named as an Honorable Mention member of the 2008 State Farm Coaches’ NCAA Division III All-America Team, announced Friday by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. With the honor, Coffin (Westford, Mass.) becomes a two-time All-America honoree in both basketball and soccer. She is also the first Bates woman to earn All-America honors in basketball in more than one season. The 6-foot-2 center was one of 40 players selected for All-America honors, and one of only two from a NESCAC institution, along with Amherst College senior Shaina Pollack. It is the fourth postseason honor this year for Coffin, who earlier this month was named NESCAC First Team All-Conference, First Team All-State by the Maine Women's Basketball Coaches Association, and All-Northeast Region Second Team by D3hoops.com. After missing the 2006-07 season due to injury, Coffin returned this winter for her final year with the Bobcats and once again ranked among the conference leaders in multiple statistical categories. The 2006 NESCAC Player of the Year, she averaged a team-high 15.3 points (5th in NESCAC), 9.4 rebounds (4th) and 1.58 blocks (3rd) per game while shooting at a 56.4 percent clip (2nd) through 19 outings, collecting nine double-doubles in the process. Coffin closed the book on her career fourth all-time at Bates in scoring and rebounding with 1,252 points and 789 boards.
