ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- Hannah Laverty and Caroline Lemoine each reached the quarterfinals of the Holleran (B) Division Second Round Consolation Bracket Saturday as the 2007-08 Bates women's squash season came to a close at the College Squash Association Individual Nationals at the U.S. Naval Academy.

As fate would have it, Laverty (Brooklyn, N.Y.), a sophomore, was matched up against senior teammate Jenny Imrich (Cambridge, Mass.) as the round of 16 started off Saturday morning. Laverty prevailed by a score of 9-6, 9-4, 9-7, moving on to face Mount Holyoke's Laura Robinson in the bracket quarterfinals. Robinson ousted Laverty there by a score of 9-2, 9-5, 7-9, 9-5.

Meanwhile, Lemoine (Natick, Mass.), a senior captain along with Imrich and Charlotte Gerrish, defeated Laurian Lue Yen of Mount Holyoke in the round of 16 Saturday morning in a drawn-out battle, 9-4, 9-4, 5-9, 2-9, 9-6, before falling to Cornell's Anne Ritter 6-9, 9-0, 9-6, 9-2.

Friday Recap

In Friday's action in the Holleran Cup main draw, Laverty had little trouble with Wellesley's Sarah Odell, defeating her 9-2, 9-2, 9-2 in the round of 64 of the Holleran (B) Cup Division, before dropping a tough 9-1, 9-6, 9-10, 9-7 decision to Yale's Jessica Balderston in the round of 32.

Imrich emphatically put away Katherine Whitesell of Smith College after a slow start, 1-9, 9-2, 9-2, 9-2, in the Holleran Division round of 64, then lost to Alexandra Cornett of Cornell University 9-5, 9-4, 9-5 in the round of 32.

Lemoine defeated George Washington's Racaehl Rayfield 9-1, 9-5, 9-0 in the Holleran Division round of 64 but was eliminated from the main draw by Yale's Caroline Reigeluth 9-4, 9-0, 9-4.
