Lue Yen Bows in Holleran Cup Second Round Consolation Quarterfinals

Lue Yen finished the 2003-04 season with a 7-15 record.

CANTON, N.Y. – Melissa Lue Yen lost to M.I.T.'s Rita Monson in the quarterfinal round of the Second Round Consolation bracket of the Holleran Cup at the College Squash Association Individual National Championships at St. Lawrence University on Saturday.

Monson defeated Lue Yen '06 (Kingston, Jamaica) 9-5, 9-7, 9-2 to advance to the semifinals. Lue Yen started the tournament with a 9-2, 9-1, 9-2 win over Wellesley's Lila Lee to advance to the Holleran Cup Round of 16, but fell to Yale's Sarah Coleman, ranked 41st nationally, 9-1, 9-6, 9-0 to move to the Second Round Consolation bracket, where she face Monson.

Bates finished the 2003-04 season with a program-best ninth-place finish at the Howe Cup Team National Championship tournament at Yale, claiming the first Kurtz Cup title in program history. After starting the season with a 1-2 record, the Bobcats rebounded to win 13 of their final 14 matches to finish the year 14-3.
