Bates' top doubles team of senior captain Alex Piacquad (Yardley, Pa.) and sophomore Meg Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.) received a first-round bye, then defeated Mount Holyoke's top doubles team, Han Nahrhee and My-Linh Nguyen, 3-0 to advance to the round of 16. There third-seeded Williams pair Grace Baljon and Lucy Marchese defeated the Bobcat team 3-0. Bates' second' doubles team of first-years Katie Helfgott (Newton, Mass.) and Jacqui Holmes (Harvard, Mass.) won its opening-round match against Suffolk's top duo of Alex Hernandez and Lauren Cameron 3-0, then were defeated in the Round of 32 by second-seeded Amherst, 3-0. They moved on to the second round consolation draw, where they were defeated by Tufts 3-0. Bates' third pair, first-years Ashley Brunk (Phoenix, Ariz.) and Jenna Burke (Burlington, Mass.), was defeated by Simmons in the Round of 64 of the A Flight, then went on to defeat Babson's No. 2 pair, Liz Sheerin and Lorena Becerra, 3-0 in the A Flight Consolation. Bates' fourth doubles pair, senior captain Jean Gulliver (Falmouth, Maine) and sophomore Maria Rouvalis (Concord, N.H.), won two matches in the B Flight, defeating Simmons' No. 2 Maggie Taylor and Melissa Keroac 3-0 and Connecticut College No. 3 pair Sarah Yeransian and Alicia Cauteruccio 3-0 before falling to Amherst 7 3-0 in the Round of 16. The tournament concludes the Bobcats' brief fall schedule; they will resume play in February. |
