Wanless Wins NCAA Shot Put Title, Godsey Brings Home Three All-America Awards

Liz Wanless set an NCAA meet record with both of her national championship performances.
DECATUR, Ill. –
Liz Wanless won the women's shot put at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a meet record throw to claim her second national shot put championship on Saturday afternoon at Millikin University.

Wanless '04 (Belleville, Ill.) won by more than five feet with a toss of 52 feet one-half inch. Wanless was also the NCAA shot put champion at the indoor championship in March.

Kelly Godsey '06 (Parker, Colo.) won her third All-America honor of the season with a third-place showing at 46-2.5. Godsey was second in the hammer throw on Thursday and fourth in the discus on Friday for the Bobcats. Jackie Luehmann of Gustavus Adolphus finished second with a mark of 46-5.25.

Bates finished tied with Williams for eighth in the team standings with 29 points. Wisconsin-Oshkosh won the team title with 57 points. Calvin was second with 54.3 and Wheaton third with 37.8.

Godsey Fourth in Discus at NCAA Championships

DECATUR, Ill. – Kelly Godsey earned her second All-America honor in as many days, finishing fourth in the women's discus at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Millikin University on Friday afternoon.

Godsey '06 (Parker, Colo.) broke her own school record with a 146-foot, 7-inch throw in the preliminary round. Kristin Pearson of Gustavus Adolphus won the event with a mark of 159-6. Calvin's Katie Corner was second at 156-3, while Robyn Jarocki of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, who edged Godsey to win the hammer throw yesterday, was third at 154-1.

Godsey, who came into the event as the eighth seed, has now claimed four All-America honors this year, including two at the indoor championships in March. She has the opportunity to win her third in as many days as the seventh seed in the shot put on Saturday. Liz Wanless '04 (Belleville, Ill.) will be the top seed in the event.

Bates sits in seventh place in the team standings with 13 points after two days of competition. Wisconsin-Oshkosh leads with 32 points, with Calvin second with 24.2.

Godsey Second in Hammer Throw at NCAA Championships

Thursday's second-place finish was the first time Godsey had not won the hammer throw this outdoor season.

DECATUR, Ill. – Kelly Godsey finished second in the women's hammer throw at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Millikin University on Thursday afternoon.

Godsey's mark of 188 feet, three inches set the Lindsay Stadium record in the preliminary round, but Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Robyn Jarocki set an NCAA championship record with a throw of 192-4 in the finals to edge Godsey for the NCAA title.

Godsey '06 (Parker, Colo.) is a national runner-up for the second time this year. She also finished in second in the 35-lb. weight throw at indoor nationals.

Godsey will also compete in the discus and shot put at the NCAA championship later this week.
