The award honors those student-athletes who have succeeded both academically and athletically. To be eligible for the award a student-athlete must carry a minimum 3.5 cumulative grade point average and must finish in the top 25 percent of the field at their respective NCAA regional meet. Earning the honor for Bates were senior Allie Goldstein (Needham, Mass.) and sophomores Alex Alberto (Concord, Mass.) and Chloe Bourne (Litchfield, Conn.). The Bates trio helped the Bobcats finish eighth out of 49 teams at the New England Regional Championships in November. Alberto, a French major, finished 50th out of 330 competitors in the race, hosted by Williams College. Bourne, an environmental studies major, was 54th and Goldstein, an English major and team captain, was 76th. The New England Small College Athletic Conference, of which Bates is a member, had the most student-athletes on the 2008 USTFCCCA Cross Country All-Academic list with 25. |
