Latest NewsKathryn Moore leads Bates women's cross country at New Englands 10/8/2005 BOSTON -- Bates College junior Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.) returned from an early-season injury to put together a strong race at the New England Open women's cross country championships Saturday at Franklin Park, finishing the 5-kilometer course at 63rd overall with a time of 19:17. "She was really competitive today. It was a bit of a breakthrough race for her," Bates head coach Jay Hartshorn said of Moore. Bates placed 25th out of 44 teams at the meet, despite the absence of freshman Hannah Giasson (Auburn, Maine), the Bobcats' top finisher two weeks ago at the Tufts Invitational. Rounding out Bates' top five after Moore were sophomore Aviva Goldstein (Manchester, N.H.; 118th, 19:56), senior Kim Whipkey (Portland, Maine; 133rd, 20:05), junior Rachel Judson (Denver, Colo.; 159th, 20:21) and sophomore Molly Balentine (Hampden, Maine; 196th, 20:45). "The gap between our second and seventh runners closed, and we were more consistent than we have been. It was solid," said Hartshorn. Bates competes at the State Championships at Colby College next Saturday, Oct. 15. For complete results, follow the link below: |
