LEWISTON, Maine -- Colby College swept the Bates College men's and women's swimming and diving teams at Tarbell Pool on Saturday, but several Bates athletes continued to show strong progress. The Colby women defeated Bates 173-118, while the Colby men won 160-94.

Bates head coach Dana Mulholland was excited by the implications of his swimmers' performances.

"It was absolutely amazing to see the teams continue to improve their best times at this point in the season, and it bodes very well for how they will swim at the NESCAC Championships," he said.

Standouts for the Bates women included first-year diver Kelsey Lamdin (Brunswick, Maine), who qualified for the NCAA Championships on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Lamdin came in first place in the 1-meter with 257.30 points and in the 3-meter with 260.05 points. Sophomore teammate Tasha Rosener (Dillon, Colo.) placed second in both events.

Sophomores Annie Barton (Holladay, Utah) and Michelle Parent (Washington, Conn.) both had lifetime bests in the 100 freestyle, Barton with a first-place time of 55.50 seconds and Parent at 1:03.28.

Senior co-captain Kate Gatti (Chelmsford, Mass.) dropped her best-ever in-season times in the 100 free for the fourth consecutive meet, posting a second-place 55.82.

Sophomore Kristin Gray (Cranbury, N.J.) had her best in-season times in both the 100 and 200 fly, at 1:04.36 and 2:22.47.

First-year Chris Berry (Augusta, Maine) shaved six seconds off his previous best performance in the 200 backstroke, coming in at 2:07.61.
