Bates notches sixth shutout this season in women's squash

2006 LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College women's squash team, rated 10th nationally in this week's College Squash Association rankings, had little trouble dispatching in-state rival Colby College for the ninth straight match on Thursday at the Bates Squash Center, 9-0. Bates now stands at 6-4, with all six victories coming by 9-0 scores. The No. 18 Mules dropped to 4-5. The night's two most closely contested matches came at No. 1, where Bates senior Melissa Lue Yen (Kingston, Jamaica) outplayed Colby sophomore Stacy Petro (Philadelphia, Pa.) 9-6, 9-0, 10-8, and at No. 3, where Bates sophomore Charlotte Gerrish (Rye, N.Y.) outlasted Colby sophomore Nina Delano (Greenwich, Conn.) 3-9, 9-7, 5-9, 9-5, 9-5.
