No. 7 Brown women's squash deal No. 10 Bates a home defeat, 8-1

2006 LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 7 nationally-ranked Brown University women's squash team came within one match of sweeping No. 10 Bates College on Sunday at the Bates Squash Center, but the match was closer than the final score indicated. Bates first-year Margot Webel (Locust Valley, N.Y.) defeated Brown senior Courtney Quick in straight games at the No. 9 position. But included in Bates' eight losses to the Bears were five-set marathons at No. 2, where junior Erin Andrews prevailed over Bates junior Kelsey Engman (Haverford, Pa.); at No. 5, where junior Zarah Rahman defeated Bates junior Schuyler Haynes (Bacova, Va.), and at No. 6, where Bobcats sophomore Caroline Lemoine (Natick, Mass.) lost to Letitia Haynes. Two other Bobcats took her Brown opponent to four games: sophomore Charlotte Gerrish (Rye, N.Y.) at No. 3, and first-year Sarah Blomstedt (Gill, Mass.) at No. 7. Bates (6-5) will compete at Bowdoin College on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. Brown defeats Bates 8-1 |
