Bates men cruise past UMaine-Presque Isle for 15th straight win

LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore guard Bryan Wholey (Marshfield, Mass.) led all scorers with 17 points as the Bates College men's basketball cruised to its 15th straight victory, 83-43 over UMaine-Presque Isle on Monday night. First-year guard Brett Miles (Littleton, Maine) led the Owls (1-16) with 14 points, and sophomore Jonathan Cooley (Palms, Calif.) added 11 for the Owls, who led 15-14 halfway into the first period before Bates (18-2) got untracked and seized a 49-23 lead by halftime, with a 27-2 advantage in points off of turnovers. Twelve players scored for Bates (18-2), which shot 43.5 percent from the floor to the Owls' 34.6 percent. The Bobcats forced 25 turnovers and outrebounded UMPI 48-28, led by junior forward Rob Stockwell (Temple, N.H.), who had 11 rebounds to go with nine points, four assists and four steals. First-year center Mark Westhuis (Singapore) grabbed eight boards and blocked two shots.
