MINNEAPOLIS -- Bates College first-year diver Kelsey Lamdin had a breakthrough performance Saturday at the NCAA Division III championships, placing sixth in the 3-meter platform competition to claim All-America honors. With 433.40 points, Lamdin (Brunswick, Maine) was edged out for fifth place by Carnegie-Mellon's Julia Pavia (433.90), and a notch above Middlebury's Alanna Hanson (431.05). Lake Forest College's Kendall Swett scored a meet-record 489.00 points. On Thursday, Lamdin placed 16th overall in the 1-meter springboard competition at nationals, thus earning honorable mention All-America honors. Lamdin finished ahead of six of the 22 divers at the 1-meter, with 374.20 points. She was narrowly edged by Albion College junior Lindsay Brown (374.35). Lamdin becomes Bates' second All-America diver, after 2005 graduate Kara Seaton. |
