D'Souza to discuss "The End of Affirmative Action" LEWISTON, Maine -- Dinesh D'Souza, author of "Illiberal Education" and "The End of Racism," will discuss "The End of Affirmative Action" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, in the Edmund S. Muskie Archives, Bates College. The public is invited to attend free of charge. D'Souza notes that while race-preference policies have been voted down in California and Washington state, and the U.S. Supreme Court has been increasingly reluctant to permit race-based policies in university/college admissions, job hiring and the awarding of government contracts, the adoption of color-blind policies at the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Texas at Austin have resulted in a sharp decline in the enrollment of black and Hispanic students. D'Souza will discuss the future of Affirmative Action, whether racism is the main problem faced by blacks and other minorities today and alternatives to race-based policies. D'Souza, a former White House domestic policy analyst, is a research scholar at the American Enterprise Institute. His articles have appeared in the Atlantic Monthly, Forbes magazine, the Wall Street Journal and Vanity Fair. He also has appeared on numerous television programs, including Nightline, Crossfire, Today and Meet the Press. D'Souza's visit to Bates is sponsored by the Bates College Republicans.
