McCormick continues Spiritual Journeys series at Bates

LEWISTON, Maine -- Delle McCormick, Cuernavaca Center for Intercultural Dialogue on Development, will discuss "A Feminist Lesbian Minister's Journey Among the Poor in Mexico" at Bates College (Tuesday) Sept. 28 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Skelton Lounge, Chase Hall. The public is invited to attend this Spiritual Journeys lecture without charge. Call 207-786-8272 for more information.

McCormick serves as director of retreats for theÊCuernavaca Center for Intercultural Dialogue on Development in Mexico, an organization dedicated to the self-determination and dignity of marginalized people. She also teaches feminist liberation theology at the Center for Global Education in Cuernavaca.

Sponsored by the Office of the Chaplain at Bates, the Spiritual Journeys lecture series features speakers from a variety of traditions who tell the stories of their spiritual awakening and development. Speakers are invited to explore how they experience a sense of the holy in their everyday lives, how their perspectives and disciplines have shaped that sacred experience and how they understand religion as a resource or an obstacle to the life of the soul. Speakers may also address the political and social consequences of their spirituality.

Next in the Spiritual Journeys series will be Carolyn Dittes, potter and Protestant chaplain at Boston University, on "In Dialogue with Clay: Creativity and Change in Pottery and Its Maker" (Thursday) Oct. 7 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Skelton Lounge, Chase Hall.
