Five named Bates trustees

LEWISTON, Maine -- Susan Doliner of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Joseph H. Matzkin of Newton, Mass., have been elected to the Board of Overseers by the alumni body; David J. MacNaughton of New York, N.Y., Ann Myer of Los Angeles, Calif., and Thomas A. Renyi of Wyckoff, N.J., have been appointed to serve on the bicameral board of trustees at Bates College, announced President Donald W. Harward.

Doliner, associate vice president for development at Maine Medical Center, led the capital campaign to construct the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital. Formerly director of development at Wheaton College, she became associate vice president for development at Maine Medical Center in 1990. Past president of the New England Association of Healthcare Philanthropy, Doliner is a member of the Association of Healthcare Philanthropy board of directors. She is a 1981 graduate of Bates.

Matzkin is senior partner with the Boston law firm of Looney & Grossman, LLP, representing clients in business transactions and general corporate matters. After graduating from Bates in 1966 with a degree in political science, he received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law. He is past president of the Alumni Council of the Bates Alumni Association.

MacNaughton is a financial consultant with Merrill Lynch & Co. in White Plains, N.Y. Having graduated from Bates in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in history, he earned his J.D. from Syracuse University in 1977.

Myer is president and chief executive officer of Mendelson & Assoc. Inc. in California. She earned her bachelor's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. She serves on the Board of Inner City Arts in Los Angeles. She and her husband, Greg, are the parents of Tracy Leigh Myer, who graduated from Bates in 1998, and Joshua Ryan Myer, Bates class of 2003.

Renyi, chairman and chief executive officer of the Bank of New York and of the Bank of New York Company Inc., serves on the Board of Governors of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, where he earned bachelor's and master's degrees. He also serves as director and vice chairman of the New York Bankers Association and is a member of the Board of Managers of the New York Botanical Garden and the Bankers Roundtable. Renyi and his wife, Elizabeth, are the parents of Christopher T. Renyi, a 1997 graduate of Bates.

The Bates College board of trustees includes the board of fellows, whose members serve lifetime terms, and the board of overseers, whose members serve five-year terms.
