Latest NewsBates women 13th out of 41 teams at NCAA Regional Qualifier 11/12/2005
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Bates College's women's cross country team finished 13th out of 41 teams at Saturday's NCAA New England Regional Championship, hosted by Springfield College. With 376 points, the Bobcats were a shade behind MIT (360) for 12th. Williams won the team title, followed in succession by fellow NESCAC programs Colby, Amherst, Middlebury and Tufts. "Our 1 through 5 runners ran close together, and it was a good finish for us," said head coach Jay Hartshorn. "We can do better, and we'll have everyone back here next year but one, so I believe we will." Junior Kathryn Moore (Pelham, N.H.) led the way for Bates, placing 52nd overall in a time of 23:32.4. Sophomore Aviva Goldstein (Manchester, N.H.) was next, in 66th place at 23:49.2. Kim Whipkey (Portland, Maine) finished her consistent senior season in 70th place overall, at 23:51.8, followed by sophomore Molly Balentine (Hampden, Maine) in 89th at 24:15.2, junior Rachel Judson (Denver, Colo.) in 99th at 24:27.9, first-year Krista Stafstrom (Dekalb, Ill.) in 115th at 24:49.1, and first-year Allie Goldstein (Needham, Mass.) in 123rd, at 24:57.4. There were 265 runners competing at the event. |
