On this idyllic travel adventure, your campus site is charming Aix-en-Provence. See the picturesque Mediterranean fishing port of Cassis. Delight in a boat cruise along towering white seaside cliffs. Journey "off the beaten path" to the rolling hills of the Lubéron region. Travel to the Roman ruins of Arles and St. Rémy and the medieval town of Les Baux. Visit Avignon with its famous Palace of the Popes and the nearby Pont du Gard.

Nine days, accompanied by Bates Charles A. Dana Professor of French, Dick Williamson. Dick Williamson has been teaching all levels of French language, literature, and culture since his arrival at Bates in 1975. He created and directed the Fall Semester Abroad Program in Nantes, France, and has often visited Avignon with students during Bates' Short Term. In recent years, he has become increasingly interested in "la francophonie," and has visited Martinique and Senegal quite frequently. A First-Year Seminar on French food has whetted his appetite for the culinary delights of this trip to Provence.
