David Kolb, Charles A. Dana Professor of Philosophy at Bates College, has shared his distinguished career with students and colleagues in the College since 1977. His Ph.D. is from Yale, where he was a Kent Fellow and recipient of the Tew Prize in Philosophy. He has written and taught in the great traditions of philosophy, including the Greeks, the philosophies of religion, of science, of art. He is an internationally recognized scholar of Hegel, but he also has explored the boundaries between philosophy and modern/postmodern culture, and the role of technology in cultural change, with particular interest in computer technology and architectural innovations. He has chaired the Division of the Humanities and the Department of Philosophy and Religion. Professor Kolb is a steady participant in important philosophical collaborations, nationally and internationally. He recently served as president of the Hegel Society of America.
