The calendar turned back in the Underhill Arena one weekend in January, 2004, as 26 hockey alumni from the classes of '65 to '85 answered the call of organizer Chris Callahan '78 and returned this January 17 to enjoy a weekend of Bates hockey, meet the current players and coaches of the men's and women's clubs, and learn a little about the sport's history at Bates.
Not only did team members see their own teammates play some downright good hockey, but they also saw the evolution of their own Bates sport: from cold walks to the Central Maine Youth Center for midnight ice time to the beautiful Underhill Arena with stands full of fans for their Friday night games; from the 1950s legendary practices on the Puddle that preceded even them, with snow shovels instead of goals and knit caps instead of helmets to full men's and women's teams, coaches, and locker rooms filled with the gear of passionate youth whose love of the game exactly parallels their own.
